Ross Castle and Old Copper Mines all year Killarney Co. Kerry

Meet at 11am at oSullivans Bike Shop opposite the Cathedral for a half day walk which includes Ross Castle and the ancient copper mines which ceased operations in 1828. It employed 500 people earlier in the 19th century but flooding from Loch Lein forced its closure. The 15th century castle was the last  to surrender to Cromwellian forces on the 22nd June 1652 who used a special design of boat  to attack it from the lake . General Ludlow their commander also had 4000 men on foot plus 2000 on horseback..
